I enjoyed reading this article, thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts with us.

This interference story is like a snowball running down hill, gathering up more material and growing in size to become unwieldy.

There are many obstacles that are getting in the way of the finding the truth.

- The secretive nature of this Government. In my experience of a lifetime observing national politics, this Trudeau Government is the hands down winner for secrecy and opaqueness. They hoard information to the point of stupidity. So it’s little wonder that everything about the intelligence service and internal communications is top secret.

- The general mistrust of a growing number of Canadians about the honesty and integrity of the Government. The Liberals have had a lot of scandals to paper over and have little political capital left to gain any benefit of doubt. That may be viewed as unfair, but perceptions are reality and saying “trust us” rings hollow when people like O’Toole and Kwan are learning CSIS facts that contradict the Government line.

- The motives of the leaker(s). I hope that we learn more about intent and soon.

A synopsis worthy of a read by all Canadians. I sense the endeavour is less about finding truth than bringing down the government. I am appalled that anonymous sources are given more credibility than the findings of the rapporteur. Hearings should be begun immediately to reveal more information and to communicate to Canadians recommendations to ensure foreign interference is effectively dealt with. It is regrettable that the official opposition seek to obfuscate rather than resolve.

"David Johnston, the independent special rapporteur"

He's not independent.

By refusing to resign he has confirmed he is not independent by stating that he reports to the PM only, who appointed him.

Many other 'facts' stated in the article are from Johnston only.

We don't know how true or nuanced they are.

That's why a full public inquiry is needed.

Unfortunately the Trudeau Liberals keep putting roadblocks in the way, aided by their media friends.

What is Johnston and Trudeau trying to hide?

The reporters certainly give their own reporting their own seal of approval. There was another panel discussion where a participant commented on how the media has not been stirred to examine its own handling of the information. I can see why Wesley wonders why the Globe and Mail doesn't release the documents they have, too bad the interviewer didn't ask them that question, once they opined so passionately on how everybody else should do it.

I think you absolutely nailed it here, Wes. I’ve subscribed to the G&M since 1986, but more and more I’m concerned that they are deliberately fomenting controversy and scandal to sell papers. What could be better than a long drawn out public inquiry? Foreign interference is obviously a growing concern, but what about domestic interference? Some clown opinion writer in the Globe actually asked, “ What did Trudeau know, and when did he know it?”, as if we are witnessing a great conspiracy by Trudeau and his Liberal cronies trying to steal another election. Homer Simpson would be proud. I like your recommendations, but the bigger problem is mis/disinformation and the social media hate vortex that spins people out of their minds. Good luck with that one!

I would take all this much more seriously if the leader of the opposition was such a rage farmer. We have got to the point every word he says is tainted. Nothing is below him to conduct outrage.

True to form this author once again can't get it right. Trudeau and what other Ministers knew, when and why they didn't tell anyone!

This story is decades long, it is not new. Read “Wilful Blindness”, Sam Cooper. See Amazon books. It may have been leaked now because there is no other option. A last ditch effort. End of. See BC Cullen Commission, money laundering. Millions pumped into Canada yearly since 1986 from CCP actors. That has found its way into every government and institution.

Nothing you say about anything will change my mind. This is like a cancer and we are in Stage 4. Corrupt top to bottom.

My prediction: the next major announcement will be the dawn of the Trudeau/Singh Dynasty under complete control of Communist China. There will not be another election. Singh will never determine it safe. End of.

The ‘trust me’ ship has long sailed & it ain’t coming back. And it ain’t neatly compartmentalized, my friend. There’s way too much history; all the baggage that Trudeau drags along from the many scandals demanded an absolutely pristine approach to settle things down. By choosing a person wholly unconnected to him & the liberals would have quickly waylaid most of the suspicions & mistrust that you say were fomented entirely by media excesses. But, what did he & the PMO choose to do? And so here we are. Yet again. It’s impossible to feel sorry for the patently stupid.

I would like to know more about the confidence levels that CSIS applies to its intelligence reports. An overheard conversation in a restaurant and an intercepted document have very different values in deriving conclusions. I haven't seen any mention of this.

The whole thing kind of smacks of Russiagate. You know the one where Donald Trump was supposed to have conspired with the Russians to derail the Empress Hilary from taking her rightful place on the throne and striking a dagger deep into the heart of American democracy. The whole thing turned out to be a nothing burger as per the Mueller Report.
