The Liberal party and Trudeau have let the country down by being ill- prepared for a world of calamities. Unbelievable situation. The much better way to select a leader is the old fashioned way - through delegated conventions. Digitization has hindered dramatically rather than helping to ensure an open and transparent leadership selection process. Elected MPs had a role to play before they were truly and completely marginalized in every aspect of government.
Yes, it is beyond irresponsible that the party, and the man, have left themselves this unprepared for a transition in power. Of some things left unsaid (as they aren’t relevant from a security standpoint, perhaps): the lpc constitution requires a declaration of intent to run 90 days prior to the election; which would have been weeks before Trudeau announced, considering a March 29 deadline.
With all of these logistical hurdles, it’s worth noting that the man did not really resign. He left the door open to remain.
Perhaps the logistical hurdles, are the point.
More broadly: this is not how Westminster democracies were ever meant to function.
Caucuses were meant to choose their leader, and turf them at will (see functioning systems in Aus, Britain).
Not choose them once in an exercise clearly aimed at generating current and future voter rolls.
Not choose them once without chance to review (left unsaid: the LPC amended their constitution to remove any leadership review after Trudeau was elected - he rolled up the ladder behind him).
That part is perhaps relevant to security:The LPC has revealed itself to be a hollow shell which can act only in self interest or self preservation of its leader.
It is modeled after the man himself. A man who would paralyze parliament in the face of crisis only to save some furniture, who would blame house paralysis on the opposition - who are demanding documents on the green slush fund to which they are legally entitled (as ruled by the liberal speaker of the house).
The LPC: to have fought so hard to prevent foreign interference findings from being divulged, to ignoring them and leaving it to now (!! ?) to harden any aspect of their leadership process, to being completely unprepared for transitions in power that was clearly needed.
I am a centrist voter, and honestly, this entity does nor deserve official party status. It should be scrapped, and started over.
The leadership contest will be a sham. We won't know which candidates were named as foreign stooges in the NSICOP report, so we must assume they are all foreign stooges. Luckily the only poor outcomes will be the wasted time and one extra PM pension ( assuming Trudeau doesn't win).
It remains to be seen whether this accords with the national interest, or when the process will be run by the Liberals with the national interest being the pararamount consideration.
Good advice for the LPC, who are these Liberal Party people that the caucus would like to see some steps to show the party is taking security seriously? I thought that Mr. Trudeau had rebuilt this party to his own ends. 🇨🇦 ☹️

We hold a beauty pageant every four years to select our next dictator.

Real test for the Liberals on their seriousness or lack thereof
