Good piece. Also a couple of articles in the Globe this morning, where they key word was "wittingly". I find the govt & civil service indifference to national defence & security infuriating. Oh, now the Arctic is important? It is & has been, but there are much broader needs. That should have been obvious in 2016 when Trump was elected, obvious x2 when Putin went full on invasion in 2022, so now it's important with a 20 year time horizon. We are not well served.
Thank you! Canada needs to separate the roles of Attorney General and Justice Minister. The Attorney General needs to be a seasoned court experience lawyer that is not DEI selected. The RCMP should report to this independent Attorney General who will administer the law without regard to political inconvenience, and hopefully reinstate Canada as a land of law and order.
Canada does not have this. The government will not investigate itself.
Just wondering if the reason the Chinese diplomat Zhou Wei was not expelled as early as 2019 was because of the 2 Michaels being held hostage in China. In those circumstances it might have been counterproductive. But 2023 was obviously too late.
I would like more info on what exactly were the actions/activities that diplomat Zhou Wei did that resulted in the extraordinary measure of kicking him out of Canada. I would also like to know who the MP is who "consorted with a foreign intelligence officer, sought to arrange an overseas meeting, and “provided the intelligence officer with information provided in confidence." What does consorted mean...it could be anything from frolicking on the beach with the PM or trapping someone in activities that might be embarrassing to someone else. Why hasn't he/she been named? Is he/she still in Canada? Better yet, how do we get around the worries about racism as opposed to identifying people who do not act in a way that Canadians consider OK. How do we separate these out so that we don't fall into the foibles of ethnic blaming? Is there anyone in government who truly understands the plight of citizens. Not Trudeau for sure.....Anyone?
I was dismayed to see the public safety minister out yesterday questioning (yet again) the accuracy of some (undefined) parts of the report. The government's intent seems to be to undermine the confidence of Canadians in the very committees that they established to 'deal' with the problem.
Thank you for this! The federal government's #1 job is protecting democracy and the citizens of Canada. What became priority over protecting Canada's democracy and Canadian citizens?

"That’s textbook treason."
Thank you for calling it out for what it is.
