This may satisfy the Green's but is a case of misaligned priorities. While the likes of Putin and Xi eat their lunch the German's will be wiping out the remains of their nuclear industry and making themselves even more vulnerable.
It would be a good time for Canada to get out of NATO which has become a pro-militarization of everything and oppressive organization. We should also begin to distance ourselves from the USA slowly but surely as that country drifts inevitably into an authoritarian state. Canada should become a leading force for peace rather than a follower of the NATO/USA war mentality.
This whole Ukraine war thing may a back-handed US strategy to wean Germany from cheap Russian gas and force the Germans to buy US produced natural gas at a huge markup. Just in case the Germans got any wise ideas the US blew up Nordstream2.
Interesting discussion. Germany was an early leader in sponsoring research exploring the links between climate change and security. But they are lagging in conducting national climate security risk assessments - most countries, in fact, have yet to do them, Canada included. It’s about time that this country produces an integrated assessment on climate security risks - perhaps as part as a larger national security assessment, as this piece sensibly argues.
An excellent piece of work! The fact is that Canada in general has been weak in "horizontal" strategic thinking and planning. It is refreshing to see signs of change -maybe in the "nick of time". Denmark and Germany taken together have lot to teach the Canada-US tag team. Tony Campbell
