It's been 10 years since the Yazidi genocide and this is how we react to it? "The same seems true for an earlier investigation launched into war crimes by ISIS against the Yazidi population of Kurdistan." I'm so disgusted with this country's government to NOT hold people accountable for their war crimes. I don't care if the ISIS people found god or are behaving better, or even if they're loving democracy. They need to be held accountable for what they did.
I'm also hoping that this current terrorist with bay'ah to ISIS does not get off lightly. There's always a sneaking defense that will try NCR to have them not charged and put in jail. This cannot happen.
Appreciate this news. I am an angry Canadian who is getting tired of what I see as our soft approach to foreign interference and terrorist groups operating with smug complacency in my country. Do you think you could update us from time to time on this case? Otherwise I hope CBC will.
Very interesting and certainly a trial to watch. Moreover, it raises interesting evidentiary questions. And without getting into the vagaries of "hearsay", I will simply remind readers that alleged Air India murderers were also charged and tried and they acquitted. Except for the bomb maker who is out of jail and not in the least repentant. And the case of Cameron Ortis has yet to make its way through the appeals, which may postpone an outcome for years.
Ortis deserves every single second that he's being made to serve out his time in jail. The only thing that has probably changed about him, is that he manipulates people to believe it with "softer power."
I make no comment on the merits of the evidence, some of which I gather we did not hear and the revealing of which is one of the legal issues on the case. Suffice it to say that having spent some decades in hearing room, I have learned that there is sometimes a huge gap between what is alleged and what can be proved. Which is why I mentioned the Air India trial. And no doubt why Indian may have cause to doubt Canada's law and its enforcement.
Interesting column. If I may use that phrase, Canada is not a serious country. And neither are a lot of the people running it. All talk, little action.
We can only hope that this might change with a new government.
The much bigger question is how did this guy get into Canada in the first place, and how could he have possibly been granted citizenship? How were all of these red flags not identified? Just appalling.
I don't regard any Muslim to be a 'Canadian' or 'American'. This is a species we've foolishly rescued and have allowed to live amongst us at our peril.
ISLAM stands for everything in the West have fought against.
Islamic ideology is permanently stuck in a time warp due to Muslims being indoctrinated from birth too afraid to challenge or change. Nowhere has their ideology produced peace or prosperity.
Reality is that every Islamic country is wrought with corruption, poverty and violence.
Muslims despise all the West stands for but its where they aggressively clamor to get in and once in they make trouble for us.
No more rescue!
Muslims don't deserve the privilege of living in a system that we have created on our own that IS successful, peaceful, prosperous and offers every good thing for a good life (especially for women).

Is the son also charged? If not, will the son be deported?
