Michael Chong is a parliamentarian completely and utterly deserving of the title Honourable! It should embarrass anyone who pretends or implies otherwise.

It’s utterly disgraceful the way that intelligence information regarding the safety of MP Chong failed to be processed and brought to the attention of senior government officials. And not just once but numerous times. I find it pretty easy to find empathy for a serious, hard working Parliamentarian who only found out about his personal security issues by reading about it in the newspaper.

The dead ends in the information network are far too complex to assess for someone like me. Mr. Wark has a great handle on that, but government Ministers through their testimony at the Inquiry seem to be as befuddled as I am. And while contrite about the lack of support for a fellow MP, there is certainly a lack of accountability. Everyone is sorry but how do Canadians know if the problems are being fixed?

The reason Mr Chong didn't raise any "deep state" allegations here in Canada is that our public services are not as politicized as they are in the US. The heads of agencies like the FBI are patronage appointments. and it is considered perfectly normal down there for the party in power to use law enforcement and intelligence agencies to enhance their political fortunes. And please don't be so naive to think it can't happen here.
